The Challenge

Computer Disposals Limited are one of the UK’s leading IT disposal companies and due to rapid growth had outgrown their existing facility and needed to relocate to a larger premises.

Originally spread over three sites CDL were bursting at the seams and logistically finding it difficult to maintain their high level of customer service. Due to space restrictions CDL could not expand their business at the rate of demand and needed to resolve the situation quickly.

After searching for a new building they discovered a 70,000 square foot warehouse in Runcorn that was in a perfect location. The problem for CDL was that the building was in a state of disrepair and needed a complete refit from top to bottom.

The search for a solution:

The directors of CDL were now faced with the challenge of implementing a full warehouse and office re-fit as well as running the business on a day to day basis.

Originally contemplating project managing the build themselves, CDL soon discovered the magnitude of the project at hand and decided to search for a company who could provide a turn-key design and build solution that would satisfy their needs.

CDL contemplated approaching an architect to create a drawing and tender package for them but due to time constraints and the initial fees costs they decided to search for a specialist design and build company who could provide the solution.

Without a tender or specification in place CDL needed to find a company who could provide a clear and concise proposal that covered all the bases as well as a company that could grasp their requirements and create a design that allowed their offices and warehouse to run efficiently.

Why CDL chose Nexus:

After contacting Nexus through Google, CDL invited Nexus to look at a design and build solution for the office build with a mezzanine floor based solution in mind, and after initial discussions discovered Nexus could not only help with the office project but also the full warehouse refurbishment.

In order to provide a design and estimate, Nexus were invited to CDL’s existing site to undertake an evaluation of the current working practices which allowed us to assess the requirements to formulate a proposal for the new premises.

After digesting the companies needs and they way they work, we create initial design proposals within a one week period and provided budget costs within a 10 day period.

These proposals encompassed all aspects of the office and warehouse fit out which gave CDL a clear indication of where the costs lie within the project.

From there it was a joint effort to refine the designs and specification until CDL had a design and quotation that worked for their budget and specific needs.

CDL carried out a similar process with other design and build companies but neither company responded to their requirements with the speed and accuracy of Nexus.

After a painless process CDL appointed Nexus Workspace as their principal contractors to undertake the full warehouse and office fit out of the build.

The solution:

The project included the design and construction of a mezzanine floor based solution to house over 50 employees. The office block included a bespoke reception area, canteen facilities, WC areas, meeting rooms, open plan office areas, Manager and Director offices, server rooms and a gym.  This was contained in a two storey office block 25 metres by 12 metres deep.

Within the warehouse we constructed over 50 metres of 9000mm high jumbo partitioning to segregate the pallet racking areas, which formed a state of the art computer dismantling area. The warehouse area received a full redecoration and the installation of a brand new epoxy floor covering.

Throughout the building LED lighting and power was installed for CDL’s machines. At the rear of the warehouse a second mezzanine floor was constructed to house more office facilities and a workshop and customer trade counter.

Nexus acted as principal contractor throughout the project and worked to a very strict timescale. Throughout the whole project, Nexus took care of all health and safety requirements and delivered a project that was on time and on budget.

To be honest with you, it has been a very painless exercise working with Nexus, I would wholeheartedly recommend Nexus to any potential client, we felt comfortable working with them and again I’m not just saying it, I wouldn’t even hesitate using them again.’ // Managing Director, Jean-Pierre Naylor

The new premises has provided CDL with a state of the art facility that has allowed their company to grow significantly in a short period of time.

Here at Nexus we would like to take the opportunity to thank CDL for the opportunity to be involved in such an exciting project and wish CDL all the success in the future for the expansion of their business.
