Miko Coffee are one of a handful of coffee companies worldwide that not only roasts coffee, but also manufactures coffee making equipment. It’s roots trace back to 1801, however it started to resemble it’s current iteration in the year 1900. Since then, the brand has survived two world wars (roasting acorns for coffee throughout), pioneered the development of ground and vacuum packed coffee and expanded their business to also manufacture coffee machines.
This takes us to the present day, when Miko Coffee decided they wanted to centralise distribution, from four separate centres down to one. Dinnington in Sheffield was chosen as the ideal location and they found the perfect premises to operate out of.
However the new premises wasn’t entirely ready for them to move in straight away, so they needed to search for a design and build contractor that could provide them with the solution they required.
The industrial interiors project involved the fit out of the warehouse and office facilities at Miko Coffee’s main UK distribution centre. In the warehouse, Nexus designed a new layout for the warehouse lighting, to ensure optimum light coverage within the warehouse. We then installed the 39 brand new LED lights.
In the office we installed new lighting, suspended ceilings, carpets, partitioning, a retro display shop window and a modern kitchen area. The modern kitchen space is the ideal area for Miko Coffee’s employees to relax. They wanted an area that their employees would be proud of and they are very happy with the results.
“During the move Nexus helped to reduce the stress levels of everyone involved. They delivered the project on budget and on time”
‘The brief to Nexus was to produce a work environment that everybody wanted to work in. Quirkiness was built into the design, in the staff area, entrance and communal area. It also needed to be an environmentally friendly workspace.’
‘On completion of the project we were handed over an office and warehouse that was to the spec that we required. The staff areas and offices always get positive feedback from our visitors and staff alike.’
‘The feel of the place and the working environment is loved by everybody who works here.’ Graham Kilvington, Head of Procurement & Logistics, Miko Coffee
Miko Coffee now have a new facility that is loved by their employees that allows them to continue serving their coffee loving UK clients. Their operation has been streamlined considerably, which can only be a good thing for both Miko and their customers.
‘The timeframe given to Nexus was reduced by two weeks due to issues with signing the lease. Although this seemed to be a problem at the time, it proved to be no problem to Nexus. I would highly recommend the team at Nexus for any work you’re looking to do.’ Graham Kilvington, Head of Procurement & Logistics, Miko Coffee.
We would like to wish Miko Coffee all the best in their new facilities and we hope to work with them again in the future. If you’re on the move just like Miko Coffee were and your new premises require a fit out, get in touch today.
